The Scenic Railway in Branson, MO

There was a time in America when the only way to get from point to point was by horse, carriage, or train, taking days or even weeks at a time to get to your destination. By the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s, automobiles, buses, and airplanes became more popular, and traveling by train was reserved for romantic honeymoons and/or cross country trips where people had the time and inclination to spend an extended period of time traveling.

Today, traveling by train is almost non-existent—unless you are cargo—and the beautiful locomotives and coach cars of the golden days of railroad history have all but disappeared, except at the Branson Scenic Railway! Today, people all over the world get the chance to experience a nearly two-hour train ride through Branson, MO’s scenic Ozark Mountains in renovated trains from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s while beginning their excursion from the historic 1905 train depot in downtown Branson.

The Trains

They just don’t make trains like this anymore, and we can’t quite figure which we love more: the view of the Ozarks through the oversized windows, or the luxury and old school ambiance of the restored passenger cars. Do we really have to make that choice? There is no assigned seating and passengers are urged to tour the train and experience first class life in a manner that has basically remained unchanged for decades.

Special Events and Activities

If your visit to Branson takes place between the months of May through December, you might want to make a reservation for the Branson Scenic Railway for Saturday 5:00 p.m. dinner and enjoy four courses of deliciousness by candlelight. Visitors with young children—and the young at heart—should plan on seeing Branson at Christmas and boarding the Polar Express, which takes you straight to the North Pole starting in November (select dates only) and almost every day in December through the 22nd. Hot cocoa and cookies are part of the deal and should not be missed!
